The first trailer for Black Adam starring Dwayne Johnson has hit the web.

In a passion project that has been many years in the making, Dwayne Johnson is finally bringing Black Adam to life in his first live-action film. Set in the DC Extended Universe, the film looks to showcase one of the most unique comic book characters of all-time, and one of the most iconic antiheroes from DC Comics lore.

Re-teaming with his Jungle Cruise director Jaume Collet-Serra, Dwayne Johnson ventures into his first-ever superhero film, which not only serves as an origin story for Black Adam, but also an introduction to the Justice Society of America (JSA) to modern audiences. The iconic superhero team pre-dates even the Justice League, and is built up as a powerful group of characters that are the only ones that can bring down the Man in Black.

Black Adam, Authentic Antihero.

I along with a select group of genre press had the opportunity to see the first trailer for Black Adam at the Steve J. Ross Theater at the Warner Bros. Lot in Burbank, CA before its worldwide online premiere. Following the screening of the trailer, I participated in an intimate roundtable Q&A with star/producer Dwayne Johnson, director Jaume Collet-Serra, and producers Beau Flynn and Hiram Garcia.

During the Q&A, Dwayne Johnson acknowledged that Black Adam stays truly authentic to his morals, and firmly takes a stand, even when it may be unpopular to most people. As seen in the trailer, he has a head-to-head encounter with Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), who tells him, “Heroes don’t kill people.” To which the antihero responds, “Well I do.” Johnson further explained his antihero’s point-of-view:

“There are things that are said, and actions that are done, that despite the repercussions, it’s what you believe in. But ultimately, what he believes in is the best thing: to galvanize the people.”

Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, Black Adam stars Dwayne Johnson as the titular antihero, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone, and Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate. Sarah Shahi, Marwan Kenzari, James Cusati-Moyer, and Bodhi Sabongui are also on board in supporting roles.

Black Adam will hit theaters on October 22nd, 2022. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding the upcoming DC film, and be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
