Black Adam star Dwayne Johnson praised Henry Cavill’s Superman following the Warner Bros. presentation at San Diego Comic-Con.
Leading up to the Black Adam and Shazam! Fury of the Gods panel at San Diego Comic-Con, a rumor came out that Henry Cavill might surprise Hall H with news on the future of his Superman. No such announcement came and Cavill’s absence from the DCEU was definitely felt at the panel.
During the Black Adam segment of the Warner Bros. presentation, Dwayne Johnson was booed by fans for his response to a potential fight against Superman by expressing uncertainty about who would play the Man of Steel. After the Hall H panel, Johnson spoke with ComicBook.com and had nothing but nice things to say about Henry Cavill’s Superman:
“I will say this. I will say that Henry is a buddy and he is a phenomenal Superman. He is a phenomenal Superman and Henry Cavill is the Superman of our generation with respect to the other Supermans of the past. Every time I see him, we have some tequila and I say ‘This guy is Superman.’ My longtime business partner Dany Garcia has been a passionate advocate for Henry Cavill and his career for a very, very, very long time.”
Are Henry Cavill’s Days As Superman Numbered?
DC fans have been eagerly awaiting insight into Warner Bros.’ plans for Superman. While two Superman projects are in development, many want to see Henry Cavill suit up as Superman again. Since 2017’s Justice League, Superman’s appearances in the DCEU have been limited to faceless cameos in Shazam! and Peacemaker, with another rumored for Black Adam.
One beacon of hope for Henry Cavill’s return is that Warner Bros. is under new leadership. It seems the studio will either reboot Superman in the vein of Robert Pattinson’s The Batman, or take a page out of Marvel Studios’ book and reinvent Cavill’s Man of Steel as they are doing with Charlie Cox’s Daredevil.
