New set photos from Sony’s upcoming Marvel movie Madame Web show Emma Roberts shooting scenes and may confirm she is playing a major spider-powered character from Marvel comics.
Madame Web recently started filming, with the first set photos suggesting the film will be set in New York during the early 2000s. Rumors have continued to suggest the film will in actuality be a team-up story, featuring multiple female spider-heroes. The latest set photos might add further fuel to those theories.
Emma Roberts is set to appear in the film in an undisclosed role, but an early look at her on set might tease the well-known Marvel character she is playing.
Is Emma Roberts Sony’s Spider-Woman?
A few characters have gone by the moniker of Spider-Woman in Marvel’s comic continuity, but perhaps the most well-known is Jessica Drew. Now it looks like Emma Roberts could be playing her in Madame Web.
The newest set photos from the upcoming Sony Spider-Man spin-off show star Dakota Johnson on set with Emma Roberts. Roberts can be seen standing outside a house where filming is taking place and appears to be wearing a prosthetic pregnancy bump.
At one point in Marvel’s comics, Jessica Drew was seen continuing to fight crime as Spider-Woman while she was pregnant. While the photo is far from conclusive proof of this character and storyline making their way into Madame Web, it certainly seems likely.

The images also show Dakota Johnson back on set. Earlier set photos appeared to confirm she would be playing the second Madame Web to appear in Marvel’s comics, Julia Carpenter. Before adopting the Madame Web moniker, Julia was also known as Spider-Woman. Perhaps Madame Web will feature a meeting of Marvel’s Spider-Women.
