Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi & His Lightsaber Grace Two Magazine Covers

"This weapon is your life!"

Two covers for the latest issue of Total Film tease the upcoming Disney Plus Star Wars series, Obi-Wan Kenobi, showcasing Ewan McGregor’s Jedi Master and his iconic weapon.

The first of the magazine covers reveals Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi in his new incognito look. While the new outfit still evokes his iconic Jedi robes, it is different enough that no concerned Imperials are likely to suspect the Jedi Master’s true identity. However, the cover does reveal the Jedi’s lightsaber, still hanging from his belt beneath his robe. It appears that Obi-Wan will not have totally turned his back on his past when the new series picks up.

The second cover highlights Obi-Wan’s lightsaber specifically. It shows the distinctive hilt of the weapon first wielded by Alec Guiness in 1977’s Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope (simply titled Star Wars at the time). Interestingly, Obi-Wan Kenobi‘s first trailer didn’t feature Obi-Wan’s lightsaber at all, implying the Jedi would be reluctant to use the weapon while in hiding. However, if these two covers are any indication, fans shouldn’t have to worry about a lack of lightsaber action from Ewan McGregor’s returning Jedi. Check out the two covers below:

The first cover also mentions Darth Vader, who will again be played by Hayden Christensen. Christensen and Ewan McGregor both last appeared in their Star Wars roles in 2005’s Revenge of the Sith, which saw their characters face off against each other in the lightsaber fight that left Vader dependent on his robotic suit. Obi-Wan Kenobi promises a stunning rematch between the former master and apprentice.

Here is the synopsis for the upcoming Star Wars series:

During the reign of the Galactic Empire, former Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi embarks on a crucial mission. Kenobi must confront allies turned enemies and face the wrath of the Empire.”

Directed by Deborah Chow from Joby Harold’s scripts, the series stars Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen, Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie. The series will also see the return of legendary Star Wars composer John Williams, who scored a theme.

Obi-Wan Kenobi will hit Disney Plus on May 27, 2022. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the upcoming series, Loki‘s Natalie Holt, and subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
