Fans have been eagerly awaiting any news about the Fantastic Four in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to director Matt Shakman, Marvel will be dropping Fantastic Four casting news soon, likely after the end of the SAG-AFTRA strike.
Despite being one of the most anticipated Marvel projects announced in the last few years, details about the MCU’s Fantastic Four film have been sparse. This has led to speculation that everyone from Matt Smith to Margot Robbie has been cast in the upcoming reboot. However, the rumors may soon come to an end, as the movie’s director Matt Shakman has confirmed that we’re getting casting announcements in the near future.
“I’m keeping my fingers crossed that they get a great deal really soon and we can go back,” Shakman spoke about the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike to Collider. “Then, once that’s resolved, there’ll be a plan at that point, but I can’t say too much. There will be an announcement at some point! I know that the internet is very excited to find out, and I’m excited to share it. I just can’t do it yet.”
Who Marvel will cast as their first family is impossible to know, especially with the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. However, Matt Shakman certainly seems confident he can finally do the team right in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The Fantastic Four characters were created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, with the team making its first comic book appearance in 1961. The previous Fantastic Four movies, while popular, were not well-received by fans or critics, and Marvel Studios has an opportunity to right the wrongs of the past and deliver a feature that is true to the spirit of the comics.
What we know about the Fantastic Four movie
The Fantastic Four reboot is expected to be a fresh take on the classic Marvel characters, with a new cast. Matt Shakman is directing the movie from a screenplay by Josh Friedman. It is currently scheduled to hit theaters in 2025.
John Krasinski played the Earth-838 variant of Reed Richards in Sam Raimi’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but his future as the character is currently in doubt. Krasinski’s wife Emily Blunt has said that she’s hopeful we’ll see the actor back as Richards for Fantastic Four.
Fantastic Four opens on May 2, 2025. Stay tuned for all the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
