The Marvel Cinematic Universe may have found its Mr. Fantastic. According to a new rumor, Doctor Who star Matt Smith was offered the role of Reed Richards in Fantastic Four following Adam Driver passing on the role.
Casting rumors for the MCU’s Fantastic Four have been ever-present ever since the film was announced. While previous rumors have stated that Adam Driver was up for the leading role as Reed Richards, a.k.a. Mr. Fantastic, Hollywood insider DanielRPK has revealed that Doctor Who and Morbius actor Matt Smith was offered the role prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike.
This MCU casting is far from certain, of course. Matt Smith’s representatives have confirmed that no deal has currently been made, and fellow insider MyTimeToShineHello suggests that Fantastic Four director Matt Shakman plans to try to court Adam Driver again once the SAG-AFTRA strike ends. However, if the deal does end up going through, Doctor Who fans can attest that Smith would make a perfect Reed Richards.
What we know about the Fantastic Four movie
The Fantastic Four reboot is expected to be a fresh take on the classic Marvel characters, with a new cast. Matt Shakman is directing the movie from a screenplay by Josh Friedman. It is currently scheduled to hit theaters in 2025.
John Krasinski played the Earth-838 variant of Reed Richards in Sam Raimi’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but his future as the character is currently in doubt. Krasinski’s wife Emily Blunt has said that she’s hopeful we’ll see the actor back as Richards for Fantastic Four.
Fantastic Four opens on February 14, 2025. Stay tuned for all the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
