The first set photo from Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two reveals Black Widow star Florence Pugh in costume as Princess Irulan.
Last year’s Dune: Part One adapted the first half of Frank Herbert’s epic sci-fi novel. Part Two is set to conclude Denis Villeneuve’s adpatation of the first Dune novel and will introduce new characters, such as Austin Butler’s Freyd-Rautha Harkonnen and Florence Pugh’s Princess Irulan.
The first set photo from the upcoming film reveals Florence Pugh’s look as Emperor Shaddam IV’s daughter, Irulan Corrino.
The Princess Arrives
Florence Pugh became a household name after entering the MCU as Yelena Belova in Black Widow, a role she later reprised in Hawkeye on Disney Plus. Her role as Princess Irulan in Dune: Part Two was confirmed in April this year.
In Frank Herbert’s novel, rather than chapter headings, much of the action is broken up by interjections from the writings of Princess Irulan, who has chronicled Paul Atreides’ rise to power. She also appears in the events of the novel as daughter to Emperor Shaddam IV.
Dune: Part One saw Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides deciding he would attempt to make a play for the Emperor’s throne by marrying his eldest daughter. Check out the image below to see Florence Pugh as that daughter, Irulan:
The image offers an idea of how Florence Pugh will look in the final film, in a flowing white gown and wearing a regal headpiece. She will appear opposite the legendary Christopher Walken, who is set to play Princess Irulan’s father, Emperor Shaddam IV.
Here is the synopsis for Dune:
Set in the distant future, Dune tells the story of Paul Atreides whose family accepts control of the desert planet Arrakis. As the only producer of a highly valuable resource, control of Arrakis is highly contested among the noble families. After Paul and his family are betrayed, the story explores themes of politics, religion, and man’s relationship to nature as Paul leads a rebellion to restore his family’s control of Arrakis.
Denis Villeneuve directed Dune from a script he co-wrote with Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts. The film stars Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgard, Charlotte Rampling, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Jason Momoa, Javier Bardem, and David Dastmalchian.
Dune is now available on home media formats, with Part Two hitting theaters on October 20, 2023. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding the upcoming sequel and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
