Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman 1984 has been delayed yet again and has been given a new Christmas release date.

Wonder Woman 1984 has been officially delayed once again in a disappointing but understandable move from Warner Bros. Given the pandemic is still continuing to cause havoc across the world, the studio is clearly worried about how a blockbuster like the Gal Gadot sequel will perform. And since the release of Wonder Woman 1984 would overlap with Christopher Nolan’s Tenet, it’s likely the studio wants to let the science-fiction epic make as much as it can at the box office without much competition. Director Patty Jenkins issued a statement explaining that the sequel will now arrive on December 25 later this year.

“First and foremost let me say how much Gal and I love all our devoted Wonder Woman fans around the world, and your excitement for WW84 couldn’t make us happier or more eager for you to see the movie. Because I know how important it is to bring this movie to you on a big screen when all of us can share the experience together, I’m hopeful you won’t mind waiting just a little bit longer. With the new date on Christmas Day, we can’t wait to spend the holidays with you!”

Fans will understandably be disappointed by the delay, especially since it was originally intended to arrive in theaters on November 1, 2019. This means that by the time the Wonder Woman sequel is released, it will have been delayed by over a year. Warner Bros. Chairman Toby Emmerich echoed Patty Jenkins’ statement, explaining that the studio is proud of the film and it will be a treat for audiences during the holiday season.

“Patty is an exceptional filmmaker and with Wonder Woman 1984 she has delivered an incredibly dynamic film that moviegoers of all ages around the world will absolutely love. We’re very proud of the film and look forward to bringing it to audiences for the holidays.”
