Gotham Knights star Misha Collins has revealed that his version of Harvey Dent won’t become Two-Face in the first season.
Last year a pilot for a new DC-based CW superhero series titled Gotham Knights was ordered by the network. The premise for the series focuses on one of Bruce Wayne’s adopted sons forging an alliance with the children of Batman’s enemies after the caped crusader is murdered. Details on the series are a bit scattered but it is known that it will include the characters Carrie Kelley, Duela Dent, and Turner Hayes. Also included in this roster is one of Batman’s more iconic antagonists, Harvey Dent/Two-Face.
Like many of DC’s antagonists, the origin story of Two-Face tends to change depending on who is telling it but some details remain consistent. He’s always a former District Attorney in Gotham City who usually comes to power roughly a year before Batman begins his crusade. During his battles with the mafia, half of his face is horribly scarred either by fire or by acid. Depending on the telling, this often leads him down the road of vigilantism himself or forming his own criminal syndicate and often triggers some long-dormant mental illness of his own.
Last month it was revealed that Misha Collins of Supernatural fame had been cast in the role of Harvey Dent. Given the premise of the series, it was assumed that he would already be Two-Face in the Universe where Gotham Knights take place. However, Collins has revealed that this won’t be the case.
During a recent appearance at SPN Indy Convention, Misha Collins revealed that the current plan is for the character to remain Harvey Dent for the first season of the series. If it continues, he will likely become Two-Face in season two:
“I can tell you that I’m playing Harvey Dent, which is a character from the Batman universe, who becomes Two-Face. I had a little compunction about that because I know my ex will be like ‘Fitting role!’ [laughs] That did actually cross my mind, I don’t want somebody to have such an easy insult for the rest of my life! Warner Bros. seems to be putting a lot into the pilot, it’s great, it seems like it has a great team behind it. For example, our costume designer did The Handmaid’s Tale, like really top-shelf people on the project. If it gets picked up and turned into a series – which would be really cool – my character will be Harvey Dent for the whole first year, so I have a nice long stretch of not being two-faced. And then I become Two-Face! Yeah, I’m looking forward to it and I’ll be the old person on the show!”
Here is the premise for The CW’s Gotham Knights:
In the wake of Bruce Wayne’s murder, his rebellious adopted son forges an unlikely alliance with the children of Batman’s enemies when they are all framed for killing the Caped Crusader. And as the city’s most wanted criminals, this renegade band of misfits must fight to clear their names. But in a Gotham with no Dark Knight to protect it, the city descends into the most dangerous it’s ever been. However, hope comes from the most unexpected of places as this team of mismatched fugitives will become its next generation of saviors known as the Gotham Knights.
