Gotham Knights was a DC superhero drama on The CW, focsing focused on a world where Batman died and his adopted son Turner Hayes was framed for his murder. Following its cancellation, showrunners James Stoteraux and Chad Fiveash confirm a revival is “virtually impossible.”
The CW has been facing massive budgets restrictions following its purchase by Nextar in an attempt to make the network profitable, with some of the biggest casualities coming from their DC superhero properties. While Superman & Lois was renewed for a fourth season with a substantially slashed budget, Gotham Knights was axed entirely after only one season.
Fans had hoped that like many shows before it Gotham Knights would be able to land a home outside of The CW. It wouldn’t even be the first DC superhero show to follow that route, since Supergirl originally ran on ABC before moving to The CW. However, according to a statement released by James Stoteraux and Chad Fiveash, it’d be almost impossible to find a home on another network.
“The two of us feel like we owe it to the fans to be realistic about the chances of the show continuing. At this point it’s virtually impossible,” Stoteraux wrote in a statement released on Twitter. “There’s a million mind-numbing production logistics working against us at this point, and resurrecting the show would be extremely cost prohibitive.” The full statement can be read below:
While Gotham Knights may not continue on the CW or elsewhere, James Stoteraux and Chad Fiveash have put out a call to fans to continue the message of the show in finding light even in the darkness. Even when budget tightening prevents projects like Gotham Knights or Superman & Lois from continuing in their full glory, their meaning to fans will never be forgotten.
A Death In The Family
The plot synopsis of Gotham Knights reads as follows: “In the wake of Bruce Wayne’s murder, his rebellious adopted son forges an unlikely alliance with the children of Batman’s enemies when they are all framed for killing the Caped Crusader. And as the city’s most wanted criminals, this renegade band of misfits must fight to clear their names. But in a Gotham with no Dark Knight to protect it, the city descends into the most dangerous it’s ever been. However, hope comes from the most unexpected of places as this team of mismatched fugitives will become its next generation of saviors known as the Gotham Knights.”
