Gugu Mbatha-Raw, who played Ravonna Renslayer in Season 1 of Loki, has discussed picking up where she left off in Season 2.
Filming on Season 2 of Marvel’s Disney Plus series Loki is currently underway. Season 1 stars Tom Hiddleston, Owen Wilson and Sophia Di Martino are all set to return and will be accompanied by Gugu Mbatha-Raw, reprising her role as the TVA’s Judge Renslayer.
Speaking recently about coming back to the role, Mbatha-Raw revealed what it was like wrapping her head around the Multiverse and coming back to the TVA.
Ravonna Renslayer In The Multiverse Of Madness
During a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Gugu Mbatha-Raw gave little away but touched upon her return to the hallowed halls of the Time Variance Authority and the role the Multiverse will play in the new season of Loki.
Loki Season 1 ended with Sophia Di Martino’s Sylvie, a rogue Loki variant, killing Johnathan Majors’ He Who Remains, the founder of the TVA. With He Who Remains dead, the timeline ran rampant, splintering into various alternate possibilities, birthing the Multiverse.
The rewriting of time saw the TVA fundamentally changed. Now under the control of He Who Remains’ even more sinister Variant, Kang the Conqueror, the TVA’s history was rewritten so that nobody there remembered ever having met Tom Hiddleston’s Loki.
Talking about coming back to the TVA for Season 2 of Loki, Gugu Mbatha-Raw revealed:
“It is [under wraps] I’m afraid, I’m not allowed to give too much away. It’s really great to be back and it kind of feels like, because my character deals with time and the Time Variance Authority, being back in that world, it’s like no time has passed.”
Asked about whether she understands the workings of the Multiverse yet, Mbatha-Raw said:
“Does anyone understand the Multiverse? I kind of feel like we needed a tutorial on it, when we first started on the first season of Loki, Tom gave us a big Loki presentation, kind of a PowerPoint on his character and his history… but I feel like we need one for the Multiverse.”
Exactly what Ravonna Renslayer’s role will be in Loki Season 2, now that there is no Sacred Timeline to protect, is yet to be seen. Based on Gugu Mbatha-Raw’s comments, it sounds like Season 2 will pick up exactly where Season 1 left off, so answers to the first season’s finale mysteries shouldn’t be far away.
Here is the synopsis for the first season of Loki:

Directed by Kate Herron, with Michael Waldron serving as head writer, Loki stars Tom Hiddleston, Sophia Di Martino, Owen Wilson and Gugu Mbatha-Raw.
