Guillermo del Toro revealed the roster he had in place for his scrapped Justice League Dark film.

Justice League Dark has been one of DC’s most popular properties in recent years. The irreverent take on the Justice League has been screaming for a live-action adaptation for years but nothing has manifested as of yet. Hellboy director Guillermo del Toro was once poised to direct a film for Warner Bros., though those plans eventually fell through.

In a recent chat with Josh Horowitz, Guillermo del Toro opened up about his planned Justice League Dark film. In doing so, he discussed the planned roster he had for the supernatural team.

“I took a little bit of the opening of the Alan Moore Constantine. And I took the dynamics between Abby [Arcane] and Swamp Thing, and I took the sort of revelatory moments when Deadman gets into a body, how he would experience the consciousness of that being. And one of my all time’s favourites is the demon Etrigan. I love that character. Zatanna is really, for me, another character that is really effortlessly powerful and interesting. Trying to mix that with Klarion the Witch Boy…I was a DC guy.”

You can see the snippet from the interview below. It’s easy to see just how passionate Guillermo del Toro is about the property and it’s a shame that never managed to hit the big screen.

Justice League Dark will still see light. J. J. Abrams is currently developing an HBO Max series based on the ragtag magical team. The series was first announced in 2020 and while no new details have been released, it was confirmed earlier this year that the DC project is still moving forward.

The Justice League Dark team was created by comic book writer Peter Milligan and artist Mikel Janín. The team made its debut in September 2011, consisting of characters like John Constantine, Madame Xanadu, Deadman, Shade, Zatanna, and the Changing Man.
