All eight Harry Potter films will be leaving HBO Max this August.
One of the biggest allures of HBO Max was that it would be an umbrella streaming service for all of Warner Bros. properties. One of their biggest properties that continues to endure is the magical Harry Potter franchise, based on the books of the same name. Beginning with the Sorcerer’s Stone (or the Philosopher’s Stone depending on what territory you’re in) in 2001, the franchise captured the hearts of millions of fan all over the world. The franchise is so successful that it has spawned a theme park, numerous video games, and a spin-off series. So it was exciting when HBO Max launched earlier this summer, fans were surprised to discover that all eight Harry Potter films were available to watch. Unfortunately, Harry’s time has come to an end.
In their recent announcement discussing what would be leaving and joining the service, HBO Max revealed that all eight Harry Potter films would be leaving. Luckily, the eight Harry Potter films won’t be leaving until August 25, which means fans have tons of times to revisit their favorite characters and locations like Hogsmeade and Hogwarts. There’s no telling when the beloved franchise will return to HBO Max.
Despite the franchise’s enduring admiration, the series has been in hot water recently due to transphobic tweets by the books’ author J.K. Rowling. The backlash was so severe that Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe himself responded to her tweets with an eloquent response. The franchise is poised to continue on the big screen with the third film in the Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them spin-off. Just like the rest of Hollywood, Fantastic Beasts 3‘s production was put on hold due to concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.

Here is the official synopsis for the most recent entry in the film franchise, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald:
At the end of the first film, the powerful dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald was captured by MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America), with the help of Newt Scamander. But, making good on his threat, Grindelwald escaped custody and has set about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise wizards and witches up to rule over all non-magical beings.
In an effort to thwart Grindelwald’s plans, Albus Dumbledore enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided wizarding world.
Directed by David Yates from a script written by J. K. Rowling, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald stars Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Zoë Kravitz, Callum Turner, Claudia Kim, William Nadylam, Kevin Guthrie, Jude Law, and Johnny Depp.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is now available on Digital HD, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-Ray, and DVD. Stay tuned for all the latest news regarding Harry Potter, Fantastic Beasts, and HBO Max, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more video content!
