The season finale for Hawkeye didn’t feature a post-credits scene that featured fan-favorite Kingpin.
Spoilers for Hawkeye.
As the season finale of Hawkeye wrapped up many fans assumed that the post-credits for the episode would focus on Kingpin. The episode ended with Vincent D’Onofrio’s nefarious villain getting shot in the head by Maya Lopez a.k.a Echo. Though we didn’t see the body of the Daredevil baddie, it’s fair to assume that the character isn’t dead yet, which lead many to believe that the post-credits zinger would tease his eventual return. Instead of seeing Kingpin waddle away from the shooting, Marvel decided to bring some festive, musical cheer to its audiences.
Fans were treated to a full song from Rogers: The Musical, the in-universe musical that charts the exploits of Steve Rogers throughout his life, in a similar vein to the Broadway smash-hit Hamilton. A performance from the musical was first seen in the first episode of the Jeremy Renner-led series. While the full musical number was a hilarious and different treat for fans, it turns out that the song and dance routine wasn’t always the plan for the Hawkeye season finale. And unfortunately, Kingpin wasn’t part of the plan.
Animator Elaina Scott took to Twitter to reveal that the original post-credits scene for the Hawkeye series would have focused on the owl Clint Barton met while handling from the Christmas tree. After Kate Bishop shrank the Tracksuit Mafia’s van with Pym-particle arrows, the owl quickly scooped in and grabbed the vehicle. Scott revealed how the scrapped scene would have seen the owl taking the truck and the members inside of it to its nest, thus putting those Kingpin rumors to rest. It’s more than likely that Kingpin will return in a future Marvel project, especially now that his counterpart has officially been folded into the MCU.
Here is the synopsis for Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye:
Former Avenger Clint Barton has a seemingly simple mission: get back to his family for Christmas. Possible? Maybe with the help of Kate Bishop, a 22-year-old archer with dreams of becoming a Super Hero. The two are forced to work together when a presence from Barton’s past threatens to derail far more than the festive spirit.
Hawkeye stars Jeremy Renner, Hailee Steinfeld, Tony Dalton, Fra Free, Brian d’Arcy James, Aleks Paunovic, Piotr Adamczyk, Linda Cardellini, Simon Callow, Vera Farmiga, and Alaqua Cox. Florence Pugh also returned in her Black Widow role. Vincent D’Onofrio reprised his role as Daredevil villain Kingpin.
The first season of Hawkeye is now available to stream on Disney Plus. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding the Jeremy Renner series and the future of Kingpin, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
