Is Hellboy: The Crooked Man actually going to be good? The official poster for the reboot gives fans their first look at the titular villain.
The internet lambasted Hellboy: The Crooked Man when the trailer first dropped. Many mocked it for looking like a fan film ran through a color desaturation filter, as well as claimed that any reboot of the franchise beyond Ron Perlman’s take on the character was doomed to fail. And without even a poster to dispell the critiques, that perception was left to fester.
However, the tune around the reboot has begun to change. Exclusive images of Jack Kesy’s costume in Hellboy: The Crooked Man led many fans to believe that he could be a worthy take on the iconic cambion. And now the film’s official poster has fans actually being vocally hopeful about the film, especially given the unnerving appearance of the project’s villain in the background of the image.
Who Is The Villain In ‘Hellboy: The Crooked Man’?
Hellboy: The Crooked Man is set to bring the franchise back to its folk horror roots by way of adapting the comic of the same name. The reboot will focus on Jeremiah Witkins, played by Martin Bassindale, who was one of the original settlers in the Appalachian Mountains of Virginia. Witkins was as bad as they came, making his fortune selling arms and alcohol in the earliest American wars, eventually leading to him being hanged.
Jeremiah Witkins was sent to Hell. However, a lifetime of sin led Satan sending him back to the land of the living as one of his personal soul collectors. It’s likely the villain’s origin will be adapted relatively faithfully in Hellboy: The Crooked Man given the reboot is helmed by series creator Mike Mignola. And given his appearance, it’ll likely come with a truly terrifying performance!
