Superman actor Henry Cavill has revealed that he is not shooting any new scenes for Zack Snyder’s upcoming cut of Justice League for HBO Max.

Earlier this year, Warner Bros dropped a bombshell on DC fans everywhere when it was revealed that the fabled Zack Snyder Cut of Justice League would be released on HBO Max sometime in 2021. Yesterday we were given more startling news when we discovered that Zack Snyder would be shooting additional material to fill out the upcoming cut. However, it looks like these additional scenes may be shot without Superman star Henry Cavill.

Henry Cavill’s role as Superman has been in question for some time. The role has yet to officially be recast and the actor had, at one point, been in negotiations with Warner Bros for additional appearances as the Man of Steel. But, it seems that whatever these negotiations are they may not include Zack Snyder’s upcoming cut of Justice League.

While speaking to Collider, Henry Cavill was asked if he would be returning to do any reshoots for Zack Snyder’s Justice League. The Superman star answered with a firm no:

“Not shooting anything additional. No. It’s all stuff that has been already done. Obviously I don’t know how things are going to evolve and change and adapt depending on now a different length of movie and whatever may happen in post-production. Whatever lessons may be learned from what is it four years since Justice League came out? Four years’ worth of fan reaction. For me…I’m now just watching the party.”

It is worth noting that this interview was done before the announcement came that Zack Snyder would be shooting new material for Justice League. The ever-evolving nature of his cut of Justice League means that Henry Cavill may have been unable to say anything or did not possess the latest information. For now, however, it appears that whatever reshoots that are happening are going to go on without Superman.

Here is the official synopsis for Zack Snyder’s Justice League:

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Directed by Zack Snyder, Justice League stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen, J. K. Simmons, and Ciarán Hinds.
