Was Logan ever really the end? Hugh Jackman explains why he decided to return to his iconic Marvel role in Deadpool and Wolverine after hanging up the mantle.
Many fans viewed Logan as the perfect culmination of Hugh Jackman’s time as Wolverine, some even calling it the pinnacle of comic book movies. Which is why many were so wary when the actor announced he’d be picking up the claws one last time for Deadpool and Wolverine. However, according to Jackman, he knew he’d come back the moment he set down the claws.
“I was on my way – I was just driving-– and literally just like a bolt of lightning came this knowing, deep in my gut, that I wanted to do this film with Ryan…for Deadpool and Wolverine to come together,” Jackman told Rotten Tomatoes. “And I swear to you, when I said I was done I really thought I was done.”
“But, in the back of my head, ever since I saw Deadpool 1, I was like ‘Those two characters together…’ I knew it: I knew the fans wanted it. Ever since I put on the claws fans have talked about these two, so that had always been there, but I just knew.”
“I literally could not wait to arrive; as soon as I arrived I rang Ryan and I said ‘Let’s do it.’ Like, I hadn’t rung my agent, no one. I had to ring my agent [after] and say ‘Oh, by the way, I’ve just committed to a movie.’ [Laughs].”
It’s certainly a relief to hear that Hugh Jackman wanted a movie like Deadpool and Wolverine to happen as much as fans. So while it seemed everything thought Logan was truly the end, Jackman’s Marvel return could be more aptly seen as a victory lap. A fun final outing to celebrate him carrying an entire universe on the back of his claws for nearly two decades.
Deadpool Meets Wolverine and…Wolverine?
Hugh Jackman isn’t the only Logan star set to make his return in Deadpool and Wolverine. A popular rumor suggests that his co-star Dafne Keen will be making her return as X-23 in the Marvel project. While many fans wanted Keen as the MCU’s Wolverine, this cameo may be a small consolation prize.
Dafne Keen and Hugh Jackman are also said to be joined by multiple variants in Deadpool and Wolverine. Rumors suggest that everyone from Daniel Radcliffe to Taron Egerton could appear in the project as different versions of Logan. If true, the film will truly be a celebration of everything that is, was, and could be Wolverine!
Deadpool and Wolverine is currently expected to hit theaters on July 26, 2024. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
