Could it all have been an illusion? Mysterio actor Jake Gyllenhaal is rumored to be the frontrunner to play Reed Richards in the MCU’s Fantastic Four reboot.
Everyone from Matt Smith to Adam Driver has been rumored to play Reed Richards in the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot. However, the newest actor thrown into the ring is Marvel Cinematic Universe alum Jake Gyllenhaal, who previously played Mysterio in Spider-Man: No Way Home. According to reliable insider DanielRPK, Gyllenhaal is Marvel Studios’ current choice for the role, though he hasn’t given a reply due to the recently-concluded SAG-AFTRA strike.
If Jake Gyllenhaal were to play Reed Richards in the Fantastic Four reboot, he’d be far from the only MCU actor to play multiple roles. Gemma Chan famously played Doctor Minerva in Captain Marvel prior to playing Sersi in Eternals. Though given the actor still hasn’t accepted the role, it’s far from a done deal.
What we know about the Fantastic Four movie
The Fantastic Four reboot is expected to be a fresh take on the classic Marvel characters, with a new cast. Matt Shakman is directing the movie from a screenplay by Josh Friedman. It is currently scheduled to hit theaters in 2025.
John Krasinski played the Earth-838 variant of Reed Richards in Sam Raimi’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but his future as the character is currently in doubt. Krasinski’s wife Emily Blunt has said that she’s hopeful we’ll see the actor back as Richards for Fantastic Four.
Fantastic Four opens on May 2, 2025. Stay tuned for all the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
