Alan Tudyk has landed yet another role in the DC Universe! James Gunn reveals a surprising character set to appear in Creature Commandos.
James Gunn has been open about using actors for multiple roles across the DC Universe, yet none seem to have their plate fuller than Alan Tudyk. The actor is paying both Doctor Phosphorous and Clayface in Creature Commandos, along with an undisclosed character in Gunn’s upcoming Superman reboot. This not to mention his many roles on Harley Quinn such as Joker and Clayface (again).
Now it seems Alan Tudyk is adding yet another DC Universe role to his repertoire. When speaking about Creature Commandos in a recent interview, James Gunn revealed that Peter Serafinowicz will be voicing Victor Frankenstein in the show. He also said that Tudyk will be taking on the role of William Magnus in the series, who is the character behind the creation of Metal Men.
“Peter Serafinowicz as Dr. Frankenstein is great,” Gunn explained in a recent talk with Collider. “Alan Tudyk as Will Magnus – his performance is based on Mike Nichols, who he did a play with one time. There are just so many fun things in there.”
Will The Metal Men Play A Role In The DC Universe?
This reveal by James Gunn led many to believe that William Magnus is the mystery role that Alan Tudyk will be playing in Superman, with the character potentially being his main role in the DC Universe after Creature Commandos. However, Gunn was quick to correct the record and say there’s no certainty in Tudyk continuing to play the character due to how minor of a role it is.
“As it was always stated, we plan on the actor playing the same role for ‘primary castings.'” Gunn explained in a recent post on Threads. “If it’s a minor character in Creature Commandos we didn’t do live-action far-and-wide searches like we did for more sizable characters like Circe, Nina, etc.”
This all but debunks the idea that Alan Tudyk will be playing William Magnus in any large capacity outside of Creature Commandos. It also likely means that James Gunn currently has no plans for the character, unlike someone like Circe. While it’s a shame, it does free up another actor to take on such an iconic role, even if a Metal Men movie has been failing to get made for nearly 20 years.
Creature Commandos is scheduled to premiere on Max on December 5th. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe.
