Did Kendrick delay the Superman trailer?

Is James Gunn not like us? The Superman director speaks on some popular picks for the film’s soundtrack, along with a viral post about Kendrick Lamar causing delays for the DC Universe.

James Gunn is known for many things, but perhaps nothing more so than his use of music in his films and TV shows. Guardians of the Galaxy was almost wholly defined by its musical identity at the outset, leaving many fans to assume that Superman will have an equally epic roster of songs on its soundtrack. This, of course, led to a wave of songs being sent to Gunn for him to confirm or debunk.

Three popular songs managed to find themselves in James Gunn’s line of fire over the past few days. When responding to speculation on Threads, Gunn confirmed that Don’t Stop Me Now, Holding Out For A Hero, and Starman all won’t be appearing on the soundtrack for Superman. The last of which came as a shock to many, who assumed that the David Bowie classic was all but a lock for the film.

Did Kendrick Lamar Delay The Superman Trailer?

James Gunn wasn’t the only one speaking on a soundtrack this past week. Kendrick Lamar, one of the most critically acclaimed rappers of the current generation, recently released his newest album GNX. This is the first album of Lamar’s to be released since his viral beef with the rapper Drake, causing it to take the internet by storm. One account even made a post joking that Gunn had delayed the Superman trailer due to the album’s release, to which Gunn responded that he had seen things that were less true on the site recently.

It’s obvious that James Gunn didn’t actually delay the Superman trailer to listen to Kendrick Lamar’s GNX. However, seeing such a influential figure in the DC Universe engage with even ridiculous jokes like that does go a long way in setting the tone for the franchise going forward. One could even say that Gunn himself is a good kid in the m.A.A.d city that is Hollywood.

Superman is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 11, 2025. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
