James Gunn celebrated his first day as the co-head of DC Studios with a social media post involving Superman.

Last month, Warner Bros. Discovery announced that James Gunn and Peter Safran have signed on to lead its newly-formed DC Studios division, focusing on the overall creative direction of the DC Universe across across film, television and animation. Gunn and Safran started their new jobs on November 1st, with the former taking to his social media pages to commemorate the occasion with a photo of a classic comic book panel featuring Superman. You can check out his post below.

James Gunn and Peter Safran signed a four-year deal to run DC Studios, with the contract making the former exclusive to Warner Bros. Discovery. This means that Gunn won’t be able to work with Marvel Studios until the completion of his duties at DC Studios. His final Marvel project for the time being is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which is currently slated to hit theaters in May 2023.

Recently, James Gunn revealed that Marvel’s Kevin Feige was the first person he told about his DC Studios role. “Not only do I love Kevin, he was the 1st person I told after I did the deal with DC (John Cena was the 2nd). Contrary to popular belief, a dollar less for Marvel is not a dollar more for DC. DC and Marvel have the common goal of keeping the theater-going experience vibrant and alive,” Gunn wrote on his official Twitter page.

A new era for James Gunn and the DC Universe

Prior to his hiring as the co-head of DC Studios, James Gunn wrote and directed The Suicide Squad and developed its spin-off series Peacemaker for the WarnerMedia streaming service HBO Max. Peacemaker has already been renewed for a second season, which is expected to begin filming next year, but Gunn is aso working on a top secret DC Comics movie.

James Gunn is expected to focus on the creative direction of the DC Universe while Peter Safran will handle business and production. They will report directly to Warner Bros. Discovery chief David Zaslav and collaborate with Warner Bros. Film Group co-heads Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy.
