James Gunn Reveals Which DC Universe Projects Have Been Written

How much will be delayed?

James Gunn DC Marvel

James Gunn is set to try to revive the DC Universe with his new position as co-chair of DC Studios with Peter Safran. A new post by the filmmaker reveals which projects have already been written.

With the studios continuing to wage their war on writers, actors, and consumers with the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, fans have been wondering which upcoming DC Studios projects may be delayed. When asked how many DC Universe projects were written prior to the strike, James Gunn revealed which two were done being written.

“Yes, here: 1. Creature Commandos 2. Superman: Legacy.” Gunn wrote in an Instagram comment “Nothing else is finished being written yet (and won’t be until after the strike!)”

Luckily for Creature Commandos fans, James Gunn has confirmed the project won’t be delayed by the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. While pre-production on Superman: Legacy has certainly slowed, it seems as though the start of Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe won’t be delayed too far, given the studios agreed to end the strike relatively soon.

Superman’s DC Universe Future

Superman: Legacy is a much-anticipated project, given that Clark Kent has been an integral part of the DC Universe for over 80 years, with various iterations and adaptations across different media. The movie promises to explore the character’s origins and his struggles to balance his dual identities as Clark Kent and Superman while fighting off villains and saving the world.

James Gunn and Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room, and a unified storyline across film, television, animation, and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.
