Why haven’t Aquaman and The Flash joined the DC Universe yet? James Gunn reveals why he hasn’t cast some core Justice League members.
Hype for the DC Universe seems to be getting bigger by the day. However, as the universe continues to expand, many fans have wondered why some of the most important figures have seemingly been left behind. Despite James Gunn developing projects for anyone from The Authority to the Creature Commandos, founding Justice League members such as The Flash, Aquaman, and Wonder Woman have been left at the wayside.
To James Gunn’s credit, there are hints toward Wonder Woman’s debut in the DC Universe with projects like Paradise Lost set to focus on her island of Themyscira and Creature Commandos introducing the villain Circe. Yet the worlds of The Flash and Aquaman seem all but absent from the initial line-up. And, given Gunn seems to be aiming to adapt the Justice League International books, some fans are worried they may be gone for good.
James Gunn Responds Lacking A Justice League
James Gunn did what he does best when these worries began to poke up their head: respond to random commenters online. When asked why he hasn’t cast Justice League staples such as The Flash and Aquaman, James Gunn remarked on Threads that the DC Universe hasn’t even started yet, giving a short yet concise answer to their mysterious absence.
It’s also worth noting that not every shared universe needs to introduce their strongest characters at the top. It was nearly a decade into the MCU that Spider-Man was introduced. Even in the old DC Universe, The Flash didn’t get his solo movie until a decade after the franchise started, and Green Lantern was entirely absent! So while fans may be jonesing for more of Aquaman and the Scarlet Speedster, it’s certain James Gunn will unite the seven members of the Justice League in due time.
