Details on Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts’ new Star Wars series have been revealed.
Back in February, it was reported that Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts was being eyed to direct for an upcoming untitled Star Wars series. The series, which is currently under the codename of “Grammar Rodeo” has had much of its story details under wraps, but it appears that we now have an idea on what kind of series this will be.
According to Vanity Fair, Jon Watts and writer Chris Ford have created and will executive produce this new Star Wars series that similar to The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, will take place after the events of Return of the Jedi and before The Force Awakens. Although specific plot details have yet to be revealed, Vanity Fair’s report gave the following description, which will certainly entice fans of Amblin movies:
“…its plot remains a secret….A casting notice has called for four children, around 11 to 12 years old. Inside Lucasfilm, the show is being described as a galactic version of classic Amblin coming-of-age adventure films of the ’80s.”
From Spider-Man director Jon Watts, Coming-Of-Age: A Star Wars Story.
Jon Watts, who is still fresh off of the unprecedented box office success of Spider-Man: No Way Home recently departed from the director’s chair for Marvel Studios’ upcoming Fantastic Four reboot. There seem to be no hard feelings between the two, but it does appear that although the filmmaker is taking a break from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, jumping into the Star Wars franchise for a new series seems like an exciting opportunity.
For one, the idea of a new Star Wars series that evokes the Amblin coming-of-age movies of the 1980s is an intriguing concept. Also, the idea that we will be seeing this set after the fall of the Empire could lead to some interesting and perilous adventures. Whether or not we will see this intersect with the ongoing narrative of The Mandalorian remains to be seen, but here’s hoping that it focuses more on establishing new characters and stories rather than relying too much on nostalgic callbacks.
Jon Watts’ Spider-Man: No Way Home is now available to own on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD. Also, The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and much of the entire Star Wars franchise are all available to stream on Disney Plus.
