With The New Mutants finally heading to theaters in August, director Josh Boone says he’s hoping it’s successful enough to make a trilogy.
While fans are still waiting for The New Mutants to arrive after numerous delays, director Josh Boone recently explained that he’s still hoping that it’s successful enough so he can continue his trilogy. Back in March the director revealed Antonio Banderas would have joined the sequel to play Emmanuel De Costa, Sunspot’s father. Boone also explained that a telepath called Karma was to be the main villain while he also intended to introduce the techno-organic alien, Warlock.
When speaking to SFX Magazine, director Josh Boone says he’s proud he got to make his version of the film, but he hopes audiences flock to see it so that he can continue telling stories in that world. He explained that his trilogy idea for The New Mutants is all planned out. The director also revealed his early draft for the film featured other X-Men characters as well as taking place in the X-Mansion. For now, only time will tell whether Disney and Marvel feel that it warrants a sequel.
Ultimately, after all this time, I was able to make MY #NewMutants film, and I'm am proud of it. What I'm hoping for now is that it will be successful enough so the studio will allow me to complete a trilogy. I've got all planned out. – Josh Boone for @SFXmagazine pic.twitter.com/QW5Q97GgEF
