Does Jude Law regret joining Captain Marvel? The Yon-Rogg actor reveals the one thing he wished happened with his MCU villain.
Yon-Rogg is an oft-forgotten villain in the MCU’s roster. While Jude Law was the primary antagonist of Captain Marvel, much of the film’s focus was on the Skrull’s plight and Carol Danver’s relationship with Nick Fury. Their climactic battle was also infamously cut short due to the heroine deciding not to dignify her old superior’s desire for a truly fair fight.
This left many to wonder if Jude Law would ever consider making his return to the MCU for a proper rematch with Captain Marvel. When asked about the prospect, Law admitted that there wasn’t much more blood Marvel could squeeze out of the stone that was Yon-Rogg. However, he did wish that he was able to lean into the goofier side that the studio is infamous for.
“I don’t think there was much more they could get out of Yon-Rogg,” Law explained during an interview with Variety. “That, for me, was the height of Marvel. It was a really good experience. I wish I’d been allowed to have a bit more fun with the part. I wanted him to be more arch. I wanted to lean into the humor more. Also, those suits are hard to move in because they’re thick rubber.”
Could Jude Law Return To The MCU?
While Jude Law is likely right that Yon-Rogg’s arc in the MCU is basically finished, it’s important to note that Captain Marvel wasn’t the only time he appeared as the character. The villain also made a cameo appearance in What If…?, with Law himself even making his return to the role to voice the character. This certainly leaves the door open to a potential appearance down the line.
However, it’s clear that Jude Law has a full enough plate that making a return as Yon-Rogg in a potential Captain Marvel sequel isn’t on the top of mind. The actor has flown around the Disney coop, jumping from the MCU to Star Wars with the highly anticipated Skeleton Crew series. He also played Dumbledore in the Fantastic Beasts series. Though given that franchise’s grim fate, it’s more likely that Law manages to convince Marvel to give his villain a solo movie than to return to the Wizarding World.
