‘Justice League’ Director Zack Snyder Teases News With Cryptic Darkseid Video

Did we just #RestoreTheSnyderverse!?

Darkseid Zack Snyder's Justice League DC Apokolips

Zack Snyder was never able to finish his vision for a connected DC Extended Universe and it seemed as though what he built was being entirely left behind as DC Studios came under new management. However, a recent video posted by the director featuring the voice of Darkseid may hint that there is a future for the Snyderverse.

Fans have been calling to “Restore the Snyderverse” ever since Zack Snyder left his Justice League project in 2017. While many fans had hoped that Henry Cavill’s return as Superman for Black Adam might mean that the hero, and thus Snyder’s vision for him, would be returning for good, those dreams were dashed once James Gunn and Peter Safran were brought on board as the new co-chairs of DC Studios with their own plans for DC’s future. However, speculation has once more reached a fever-pitch as Snyder posted a new video featuring Ray Porter, the voice of Darkseid in his Justice League film, teasing an announcement next month. The video can be seen below:

Many fans believe this video could tease the purchase of the Snyderverse by Netflix, allowing him to finish his series of films separate from Gunn’s new DC Universe. However, it’s also possible that Netflix may be a key player in the true meaning behind this announcement. It would seem odd for a DC Studios announcement to be made without Gunn or any other official account commenting on it.

What would call for only Zack Snyder to post would be a reveal for his upcoming film Rebel Moon, which also features Ray Porter in a predominant role, with the announcement from “Lord Darkseid” simply being a nod to his loyal fans. Regardless of what this teaser is hinting at, it’s clear that fans are ready to see Snyder behind the camera once more.

The future of the DC Universe

James Gunn and Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room and a unified storyline across film, teleivsion, animation and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.

Shazam! Fury of the GodsThe FlashBlue Beetle and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom are currently in various stages of post-production at Warner Bros. Discovery, with all four DC Universe movies slated to hit theaters in 2023. Will the characters from those movies make appearances in the new DCU? Only Gunn and Safran know.
