The first bit of footage for Keanu Reeves’ upcoming action film, John Wick: Chapter 4 had debuted at CinemaCon.
All the way back in 2019, John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum debuted. Like the previous two films, it was a big hit with critics and was a box office hit. The movie ended on something of an ambiguous note, with Keanu Reeves’ character seriously injured and forming a new alliance with Lawrence Fishbourne’s Bowery King to take on the criminal syndicate that wronged them both. Since then both a fourth and fifth film has been announced as has a prequel series and a spinoff all taking place within the world. Before all that happens, however, the upcoming fourth film still needs to be released.
Due in no small part to the Covid-19 pandemic, John Wick: Chapter 4 has been delayed numerous times. The film is currently set to be released in early 2023 but Lionsgate has still decided to give us a taste of what will happen in the new Keanu Reeves film at CinemaCon. The descriptions of the footage, have John training in a gym before going out to fight more enemies with the Bowery King’s support and Ian McShane’s Winston wanting him to find peace.
Here is the official synopsis for the latest film in the franchise:
John Wick (Keanu Reeves) is on the run for two reasons… he’s being hunted for a global $14 million dollar open contract on his life, and for breaking a central rule: taking a life on Continental Hotel grounds. The victim was a member of the High Table who ordered the open contract. John should have already been executed, except the Continental’s manager, Winston, has given him a one-hour grace period before he’s “Excommunicado” – membership revoked, banned from all services and cut off from other members. John uses the service industry to stay alive as he fights and kills his way out of New York City.
Directed by Chad Stahelski from a script written by Derek Kolstad, John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum stars Keanu Reeves, Halle Berry, Ian McShane, Ruby Rose, Common, Lance Reddick, Laurence Fishburne, Hiroyuki Sanada, Jason Mantzoukas, Anjelica Huston, and Boban Marjanovic.
