While fans of Amazon Prime Video’s Invincible are still waiting on the arrival of Season 2, the animated series’ Black Samson actor Khary Payton has confirmed Season 3 is already in the works.

Based on the Image Comics series of the same name, Invincible is a superhero story that pits J.K. Simmons’ Omni-Man – a twisted Superman pastiche – against his own superpowered son, Steven Yeun’s Mark Grayson aka Invincible. The first season was released on Prime Video in early 2021.

Seasons 2 and 3 of Invincible have both been greenlit and, based on new comments from Khary Payton, it sounds like work is mostly completed on Season 2, with Season 3 now in production.

More Invincible Is On The Way

During a recent interview with The Movie Dweeb, Khary Payton confirmed that the cast of Invincible had finished recording Season 2 and were now at work on Season 3.

The actor said that the upcoming seasons’ release dates now depend on when they are able to complete animation work on the recorded episodes. However, Payton did suggest that there wouldn’t be as long a wait between the two seasons as there has been between Invincible Seasons 1 and 2.

Speaking about the upcoming seasons, Khary Payton said:

“We finished Season 2, we’re on to Season 3. But, it’s so hard to say right now. There was a glut of animation studios just trying to get so much done, and literally, it was like projects sitting there with a backpack full of, you know, material being like ‘anytime you’re ready.’ You know what I mean?

“But there was literally a line for the really great studios to just get this work out. So, I honestly can’t tell you. I am dying to…I am so glad they greenlit [Seasons] 2 and 3 at the same time. That means that when 3 comes out, it’ll feel like just next season and not like a lifetime.

“But, yeah, it’s gonna take a while. I wish I could say otherwise. But I’ve done enough animation to know that…to get it right, you’re drawing every panel, you know?”

While it sounds like fans still have a while to wait before getting to see more Invincible, hopefully the fact that much of the work on Season 2 has been completed means it will arrive at some point in 2023. Whether a fourth season is also greenlit will likely depend on whether Season 2 can maintain the fan response garnered by the series’ first season.
