Letitia Wright, who reprises her MCU role of Shuri in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, has revealed how her character responds to the loss of her brother, Chadwick Boseman’s King T’Challa.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever had a difficult task laid out before it in the form of paying tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman, who appeared as the titular hero in the first Black Panther movie. Marvel opted not to recast the role that Boseman defined and the second film will deal with the death of his character.

Leititia Wright’s Shuri, T’Challa’s younger sister, was introduced as Wakanda’s premier tech genius and leader of the Wakandan Design Group. It sounds like her high-tech work will play a big role in her grieving process after the loss of her brother in Wakanda Forever.

T’Challa’s Legacy In ‘Wakanda Forever’

Shuri and T’Challa were shown to be very close with one another in Black Panther, so his death will undoubtedly have a profound impact on her in Wakanda Forever.

While speaking to Black Girl Nerds about the loss of T’Challa in the upcoming Black Panther sequel, Letitia Wright revealed Shuri is throwing herself into her work as she attempts to cope with her grief. The result is some major progress in the technological advances Shuri pioneers.

Discussing Shuri’s reaction to the death of her brother at San Diego Comic-Con, Letitia Wright said:

“Shuri definitely is consumed with her work. The loss of her brother causes her to be so consumed with her work that she’s creating at another level, at a higher level, actually. So, there’s so much new technology to look forward to, and I think that’s where her sweet spot is at the moment. Like, ‘How do I process this?’ And she just throws all of her energy — even more so — into technology. So, there’s a lot of cool new things to look out for.”

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever‘s first trailer teased the arrival of a new Black Panther in a new suit, while merchandise for the film has offered a first look at the armor worn by Dominique Thorne’s Ironheart. It certainly looks like the film is set to deliver on Letitia Wright’s promise of exciting new technology.
