‘Madame Web’ Ties For Worst Marvel Record Possible With ‘Fantastic Four’

A Fantastic Flop!

It seems the news keeps getting worse for Madame Web-heads. The film has now broken a record only shared by the infamously bad Fantastic Four reboot from 2015.

Madame Web has been getting brutalized both critically and commercially. With an infamously low Rotten Tomatoes score (that’s now worse than Morbius) and a tidal wave of hate from social media, it can’t seem to get any worse. Right? Wrong. The movie has now tied a record not broken since 2015’s Fantastic Four, being the only two Marvel movies to not open at #1 on their opening weekend.

Some could argue Fantastic Four is a better film than Madame Web in many ways. Regardless, this is only the latest sign that Sony’s plan for its Marvel properties just isn’t working. Whether the studio actually planned on making good movies is up for debate, but it’s clear those movies aren’t making money.

Who else is attached to the Madame Web movie?

Madame Web is an upcoming superhero movie based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name, who made her first appearance in the pages of The Amazing Spider-Man #210. The movie is being directed by S.J. Clarkson, a British television director who has previously worked on episodes of Marvel’s Jessica Jones and Marvel’s Defenders.

The Madame Web movie is expected to explore the origin story of the titular character and her first journey in the Sony Universe of Marvel Characters. Its cast also includes Dakota Johnson, Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced, Tahar Rahim, Mike Epps, Adam Scott and Zosia Mamet.

Madame Web hit theaters on February 14, 2024. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Sony Universe of Marvel Characters and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
