Mahershala Ali is bulking up for Blade! The actor’s look during the 2024 Oscars suggests he’s deep in preparation for this Marvel Cinematic Universe role.
Blade is one of the most hotly anticipated projects in the MCU. The reboot was announced all the way back in 2019, with Mahershala Ali attached to the leading role. However, over the nearly half a decade the film has been in the works, cameras have yet to start rolling and news has been rather sparse.
Yet it seems Blade may be closer to production than many fans think. Mahershala Ali recently presented the Best Supporting Actor award at the 2024 Oscars. The actor rocked a gorgeous black suit that showed off his growing physique, suggesting that he’s been bulking up in preparation for his role in the MCU reboot.
Blade is currently slated to hit theaters in November of 2025, suggesting that production on the project should be picking up relatively soon. Depending on the amount of CGI Marvel wants to use, it wouldn’t be shocking if Mahershala Ali started shooting the MCU reboot by the end of this summer.
Production on the Blade reboot was originally set to start in 2022, but lost its director just two months before filming was set to begin. The film was reportedly being rewritten after his departure, delaying production of the MCU film into 2023.
Filming was set to start May 30, 2023. However, production on the project was once more delayed due to the Hollywood strikes. The most recent update was this past November when it was revealed that the Blade reboot would be rewritten from the ground up by the writer of Logan.
It’s currently unclear if Mahershala Ali’s Blade will make its November 2025 release date. However, fans are confident that Ali’s passion for the reboot will push the film through to being a crowning achievement in the MCU.
