Deadpool and Wolverine has officially received its MPA rating! The upcoming Marvel film has made history for the franchise, even if it isn’t a surprise to most.
Marvel is making plenty of strides with Deadpool and Wolverine. It’s the first mutant-led project in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (not counting Ms. Marvel), the first time Hugh Jackman will be joining the Sacred Timeline as the titular angry X-Men hero, and it’s the franchise’s first ilm with a ridiculous popcorn bucket. However, its MPA rating is also a first for the MCU.
The MPA rating for Deadpool and Wolverine is, unsurprisingly, R. This is Marvel’s first film to achieve that particular rating, with the reasoning being “strong bloody violence and language throughout, gore and sexual references.” Most of this could have been surmised from the trailer, but it’s still good to have official confirmation.
Deadpool And Wolverine Keeps Breaking Records
Marvel is achieving a lot of firsts through Deadpool and Wolverine. Perhaps the most impressive aside from the MPA Rating is the project smashing ticket records. The film sold 200,000 tickets on the first day of sale, which is the highest of any R-rated movie in AMC’s history. Fans are clearly enjoying the bold direction of this project!
Deadpool and Wolverine also stands to be the longest in the franchise. With a runtime of 2 hours and 7 minutes, Marvel’s next film beats out both of its prior installments by a slim margin. Let’s just hope the film is able to keep up this momentum so it can start breaking box office records once it hits theaters next month!
