Does Marvel plan to make Ultron the next big bad…again? The latest rumor teases big plans for the character in the MCU following his return in the Vision series.
One of the most perplexing pieces of news to come out of the Vision series was the confirmation that James Spader would make his grand return to the MCU as Ultron. While the villain certainly wasn’t horrible, many wrote him off as one of the many one-and-done villains Marvel was putting into their films at the time. Especially as for years the rumor mill has been claiming he’ll return…only for nothing to materialize.
Yet now that Ultron is confirmed to be making his return to the MCU, there’s a question of what exactly Marvel plans to do with him. For as closely as they’re connected in the live-action franchise, there’s not many comics one can pull from when it comes to the role as the villainous robot will play in the Vision series. Unless one believes the rumor that the project is taking heavy inspiration from the cancelled Armor Wars project.
What Is Ultron’s Role In The Vision Series?
While exact details about the character’s role in the Vision series are being kept tightly under wraps, the rumor mill has revealed the purpose of his appearance. Insider DanielRPK revealed that, following his return in the project, Marvel plans to keep the Treacherous Tin-Man around to appear in multiple MCU projects going forward.
Some hardcore fans may jump to Secret Wars, especially given the role Ultron played in the original comics. However, given how Marvel is pulling more from the 2015 incarnation of the story for the MCU, it’s more likely that the character will be worked into the Mutant Saga somewhere. Most likely, the Vision series is going to lay the ground work for the long-rumored West Coast Avengers project, where Ultron may return as the villain.
