A Marvel Studios producer confirmed the two most important Avengers of Phase 4.
Last week, Marvel Studios‘ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness made its debut on Disney Plus. The film, which stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen as Stephen Strange and Wanda Maximoff respectively puts the two Avengers at the center of the Multiverse conflict, teasing some interesting implications for Phase 4.
Given the film’s narrative, it appears that the Avengers were being set up as some of the more prominent figures of the MCU moving forward. Although the fate of Wanda remains a bit of a mystery at the end of the film, that didn’t stop Marvel Studios producer Richie Palmer from commenting on why Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch may be the most important heroes of Phase 4.
In the audio commentary for the film, Richie Palmer said the following in regards to these two Avengers and Marvel Studios’ Phase 4:
“Yeah, it’s crazy to see Wanda act like this for the first time, it’s so exciting. And for fans of the comics, we were so excited to bring this to screen and finally deliver on the promise. Once you introduce the character of the Scarlet Witch, even before she was the Scarlet Witch, we introduced her in Age of Ultron, there was always the hope that we can bring her to this place of her doing things like [infiltrating Kamar Taj]. And it’s really exciting, and she is the best. If Doctor Strange is the anchor of the MCU of Phase 4, then Wanda Maximoff is the jewel in the crown.”
Where does Wanda go next?
Given that the fate of Wanda Maximoff is made a bit ambiguous, we will likely find out more in a future entry in the MCU. After all, Elizabeth Olsen’s performance is widely acclaimed, especially in her Emmy-nominated turn in WandaVision. Based on Richie Palmer’s comments, it would make sense if she remained a prominent figure amongst the Avengers in Marvel Studios’ Phase 4.
