He-Man is seemingly being reinvented for a new age! A rumor about the plot of the upcoming Masters of the Universe reboot suggests a new origin for Prince Adam.
After half a decade of development, a live-action Masters of the Universe project is finally moving forward at Amazon. The film has ping-ponged between production companies, having been dropped by Netflix after $30 million in development costs, and before that being originally sought after by Sony Pictures. The reboot has even churned through three He-Man actors, with Nicholas Galitzine picking up the role from Noah Centineo and Kyle Allen earlier this year.
It’s clear Amazon is fishing for a hit with Masters of the Universe. The studio has rounded out He-Man’s supporting cast with quite a number of stars, including Idris Elba, Alison Brie, and Morbius alum Jared Leto as the villainous Skeletor. However, despite the project’s pedigree and how long it’s been in development, the rumor mill has been rather dry with details. This has left even superfans high and dry when it comes to the plot, costuming and cameos in the film.
He-Man Lands A New Origin In Masters Of The Universe
With progress on the film finally ramping up, Hollywood insider Daniel Richtman has revealed some details about the plot of Masters of the Universe. He claims that the film won’t start with Prince Adam as He-Man, but rather a “regular guy” in the real world working an office job like anyone else, with the world of Eternia simply being stories he heard growing up.
This fish-out-of-water dynamic is far from novel for Masters of the Universe. Nostalgic adaptations often bring characters from the “real” world to the fantastical world the project takes place in. It’s unclear exactly how this will work for He-Man given the character is a trained warrior and a prince in the original cartoon, but for now, this rumor is the best information fans have about the plot of the upcoming reboot.
Masters of the Universe is set to release June 5, 2026. Stay tuned for the latest news on the upcoming film, and subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
