Avengers: Secret Wars is set to bring together heroes from all across Marvel Studios history. If a new rumor is to be believed, one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most iconic heroes is already set to return fo the finale of the Multiverse Saga.
A recent report seemed to suggest that Marvel Studios was in the process of getting Avengers veterans Robert Downey Jr. and Scarlett Johansson to return for an upcoming project, likely Secret Wars. However, according to a Hollywood insider who goes by “MyTimeToShineHello” on Twitter, it seems as though Downey Jr. has already signed on to return as Iron Man one final time.
It almost seemed inevitable that Robert Downey Jr. would return for Avengers: Secret Wars. Rumors seem to suggest that the final Multiverse Saga movie is set to unite the biggest faces of every era in Marvel Studios history, and no one actor better represents the MCU than Downey Jr. as Iron Man.
The future of the Avengers franchise
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is the first movie in a two-part finale to Marvel’s Multiverse Saga. It will be followed by Avengers: Secret Wars, rounding out Marvel Studios’ Phase 6. Both films are scheduled to arrive in theaters in 2025.
Destin Daniel Cretton is set to direct Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, with Jeff Loveness attached to write. Michael Waldron will write Avengers: Secret Wars, though there is no director attached to the project.
If Robert Downey Jr. does return as Iron Man in Avengers: Secret Wars, it is likely that he will play a major role in the film. Fans would rather see Downey as Iron Man instead of the rumored Tom Cruise.
Secret Wars is a crossover event that will bring together characters from all across the Marvel multiverse, so Iron Man’s experience and leadership will be invaluable to the Avengers. Michael Waldron is set to write the upcoming Marvel Studios film Avengers: Secret Wars, but a director has yet to be announced.
