The first season of Peacemaker is one for the DC history books!
Spoilers ahead for Peacemaker.
Peacemaker has finally wrapped up with one of the coolest season finales for any superhero show. Written and directed by James Gunn and based on the character from Suicide Squad, Peacemaker tactfully detailed the story of an unhinged hero finding his humanity and teammates he can consider (and tolerate) as family.
Set in the larger DC Extended Universe, the show also managed to drop various references and easter eggs throughout its run. However, no cameos besides Amanda Waller popped up for the first seven episodes. That is until this week’s episode, which saw the Peacemaker team on track to save Earth from an alien invasion.
The team was clearly out of their element and was desperate for some backup. After all, Earth and its citizens were at stake. Early in the episode, Adebayo asks Amanda Waller, her mother, to call in the Justice League. And yes, the DC heroes do show up… extremely late.
Only Ezra Miller and Jason Momoa reprise their roles as The Flash and Aquaman respectively, though Wonder Woman and Superman are seen in the shadows hanging back. This monumental occasion sets up the precedent that DC heroes like Aquaman can pop up anytime in DC’s various shows on HBO Max. With Peacemaker ready to return with a season two, one can only imagine which DC heroes will pop up next!
Here is the synopsis for the HBO Max original series:
PEACEMAKER explores the continuing story of the character that John Cena reprises in the aftermath of executive producer James Gunn’s 2021 film The Suicide Squad – a compellingly vainglorious man who believes in peace at any cost, no matter how many people he has to kill to get it!
The series was created by James Gunn, who wrote all the episodes and directed five of them. The first season of the HBO Max series will consist of eight episodes, with Brad Anderson, Jody Hill, and Rosemary Rodriguez also directing episodes. Clint Mansell and Kevin Kiner also composed the DC show’s score.
The HBO Max series stars John Cena, Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Chukwudi Iwuji, Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee, and Robert Patrick.
Peacemaker is now streaming on HBO Max, with new episodes dropping every Thursday. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding the James Gunn series and the other DC shows coming to HBO Max. Also, be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
