The Disney Plus premiere date for Pixar’s Toy Story spinoff film, Lightyear, has been revealed.

Lightyear is one of those films that will probably be remembered more for the circumstances surrounding its development than anything else. There was a great deal of confusion surrounding how it fit into the Toy Story canon despite the director’s attempts to clarify it. Controversies also surrounded it that’s to the inclusion of a same-sex couple. Ultimately the film received decent reviews but underperformed at the box office. Now it appears that Disney and Pixar are ready for the film to begin its steaming run.

Earlier today, Disney revealed that Lightyear would premier on Disney Plus on August 3rd. This will come after a two-and-a-half-month theatrical run and before it is released on home media. This would make it the second film owned by the Mouse House to be released on the streaming platform after a relatively short theatrical run with the first being Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness.

Here is the synopsis for the Pixar Toy Story spinoff, Lightyear:

The definitive origin story of Buzz Lightyear, the hero who inspired the toy, “Lightyear” follows the legendary Space Ranger after he’s marooned on a hostile planet 4.2 million light-years from Earth alongside his commander and their crew. As Buzz tries to find a way back home through space and time, he’s joined by a group of ambitious recruits and his charming robot companion cat, Sox. Complicating matters and threatening the mission is the arrival of Zurg, an imposing presence with an army of ruthless robots and a mysterious agenda.

Directed by Angus MacLane, the film features the voice talents of Chris Evans, Uzo Aduba, Peter Sohn, Keke Palmer, Taika Waititi, Dale Soules, James Brolin, Mary McDonald-Lewis, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Efren Ramirez, and Keira Hairston.
