Is Sam Raimi making his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe? A new report seemingly confirms the director is in talks to helm Doctor Strange 3.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was an odd case. It was marred by the circumstances of its time, including no less than four scripts, two directors, and one pandemic during shooting. It’s largely considered to be one of Marvel’s biggest disappointments. However, one of the few pieces of praise given to the project stems from Sam Raimi’s directing style, with many praising the visuals of the film along with its imaginative set pieces.
Luckily, it seems Marvel may not be losing that style in the next sequel. According to the newsletter of Hollywood insider Jeff Sneider, Sam Raimi is in final talks with the studio to helm the next Doctor Strange film. While no details were provided given the story of the film, it’s likely to pick up from the cliffhanger given at the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness with Clea and Stephen’s third eye.
Could Sam Raimi Return For Doctor Strange 3?
While it would make sense for Marvel to bring Sam Raimi back for one more ride given how highly praised he is within the comic book community, Doctor Strange isn’t the only sequel he’s been rumored to direct. It’s previously been claimed that Raimi was in the running to direct Spider-Man 4, which has now been debunked with another high-profile director ending up taking the reigns.
Given that the world is now out of lockdown, Sam Raimi would also have full rein to explore Doctor Strange in his own way without the crushing constraints of Marvel’s time schedule. So while some may be wary of the director running things back with a sequel, this may be the best decision for both fans and the studio alike.
