Could the Guardians of the Galaxy return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Kraglin actor Sean Gunn recently spoke on whether he’d been approached for a cameo in the upcoming Avengers films.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was a beautiful send-off to a fan-favorite MCU team. The film wrapped up plenty of loose ends, while still leaving hope for a brighter future for the band of misfits. This has left many fans to wonder if any members of the team would return in the upcoming Avengers films. When asked if there’d been any discussions about Kraglin and the rest of the Guardians making an appearance in the two-part finale, Sean Gunn answered with a concise “No.”
This direct answer may serve as sour news to Guardians of the Galaxy fans who were hoping to see their favorite team return for the biggest Avengers movies yet. The team has been a core part of the MCU for a decade, serving as key players in the last two films. Sean Gunn himself even got to shine as Kraglin for a few brief frames in Endgame!
Of course, this doesn’t mean the Guardians of the Galaxy have no chance of returning in the next Avengers films. The scripts are still in flux and filming is still a ways out. It’s possible that discussions have been happening behind the scenes and Sean Gunn simply hasn’t been approached yet to return as Kraglin. The only truly certain thing is that a celebration of Marvel and MCU would feel incomplete without the team represented in some way, even if it’s just a brief cameo.
Sean Gunn Breaks Down His Experience Filming ‘Avengers’ & ‘Thor’
Sean Gunn hasn’t just stuck to the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. His character Kraglin has appeared in some of the biggest films in the MCU, including Avengers: Endgame and Thor: Love and Thunder. However, it seems not every Marvel film has the same experience for actors.
Continuing his panel at Megacon Orlando, Sean Gunn was asked what it was like working with the Russo brothers on Avengers: Endgame when compared to Guardians of the Galaxy, which was directed by his brother James Gunn. In response, Sean Gunn expressed how every director has a different style, and that he didn’t truly have a preference for one franchise over the other.
“Honestly it’s really, you know, again I’ve been doing this a long time and it’s like- working with any director for the first time is gonna be different, and every director has their own flavor on set and their own things that they like.” Gunn explained. “The first thing you gotta do because gonna be on set for a long time with somebody is you figure out each others ways of working and try to make those links, it’s just like anything else.”
“So, yeah, the Russos are just awesome and their style is very different than my brother’s in some ways, but it’s also very similar in other ways.” He continued. “Fortunately you have the same producers on deck kind of like running the ship and things like that, so it feels the same but now I’ve worked with Taika and the Russos and my brother and all those sets feel different, and they’re all also totally great in their own ways.”
Even though Sean Gunn’s role as Kraglin in both Avengers: Endgame and Thor: Love and Thunder was brief, it’s good to hear that there isn’t bad blood between him and any of the MCU’s biggest directors. This could spell good news for the Guardians of the Galaxy to potentially return as a cameo in the future, especially if the same directors are on board for whatever project Sean Gunn is approached for.
