Wonder Man is set to bring the action of the Madvel Cinematic Universe straight to the Hollywood Hills. A new post from Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton confirms that he’s on site and ready to begin filming.
News about Wonder Man has been steadily breaking over the past few weeks, from the confirmation that Demetrisu Gross will be playing Eric Williams, better known as the Grim Reaper in the comics, and rumors from insiders that Ed Harris will be playing Simon Williams’ agent. With actors settling into their roles, it’s no surprise the director would find himself settling into set. Cretton, who directed Shang-Chi and will serve as executive producer for the show, recently posted a photo on Instagram of him standing in the Hollywood Hills holding cards for Brett Pawlak, who will serve as the cinematographer for Wonder Man:

Wonder Man isn’t the only Marvel project Cretton is set to helm in the next few years. While it’s unclear when the film will release, Cretton will return to direct the untitled Shang-Chi sequel. A spin-off Disney Plus show focusing on the Ten Rings is confirmed to be in development, though it’s unclear what role, if any, Cretton will serve for the series. Cretton is also set to direct Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, which will serve as the first half of the two-part finale to the MCU’s Multiverse Saga.
Who is Marvel’s Wonder Man?
Wonder Man is a superhero from the Marvel Comics universe with a unique backstory. Created by Stan Lee and Don Heck in 1964, Wonder Man was originally a successful businessman who underwent a dangerous experiment to gain superhuman powers. However, his powers came with a weakness to ionic energy, making him vulnerable to attacks from other ionic-powered beings.
Wonder Man has been a member of several superhero teams, including the Avengers and the West Coast Avengers. He has also had a complicated romantic relationship with Wanda Maximoff, a.k.a. the Scarlet Witch. Marvel’s Disney Plus series is expected to delve deep into Wonder Man’s complex history and personality.
Andrew Guest (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Community) is leading the writing team of the Wonder Man series, with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings helmer Destin Daniel Cretton on board as an executive producer. Cretton is also expected to direct an unspecified number of episodes before moving on to the yet-to-be titled Shang-Chi sequel and Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
