It’s official: David Corenswet will be replacing Henry Cavill as the Man of Steel in Superman: Legacy. However, SnyderVerse fans have protested the recasting on Twitter with the hashtag #BringBackHenryCavill.
Given Henry Cavill’s Superman was the character to kick off the SnyderVerse in Man of Steel, it’s understandable by fans of Zack Snyder’s work would be upset with the British actor being replaced by David Corenswet for Superman: Legacy. To protest the decision by DC Studios co-chairs James Gunn and Peter Safran, SnyderVerse fans took to Twitter to get #HenryCavillIsSuperman and #BringBackHenryCavill trending to bring attention to their cause.
This isn’t first times that fans of the SnyderVerse have protested a decision by DC Studios and Warner Bros. The #RestoreTheSnydercut campaign was so successful that it actually got the film released after years of it being locked in a vault. However, given Superman: Legacy is meant to be a fresh start for the DC Universe, it’s not likely James Gunn and Peter Safran will be kicking out David Corenswet to bring back Henry Cavill anytime soon.
Superman’s DC Universe Future
Superman: Legacy is a much-anticipated project, given that Clark Kent has been an integral part of the DC Universe for over 80 years, with various iterations and adaptations across different media. The movie promises to explore the character’s origins and his struggles to balance his dual identities as Clark Kent and Superman while fighting off villains and saving the world.
James Gunn and Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room and a unified storyline across film, television, animation and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.
