Sony’s Marvel Movies Are Creating A Problem For MCU ‘Spider-Man’ Plans

Is Spider-Man in trouble?

Is Sony causing problems for the Marvel Cinematic Universe? The studio’s spin-offs are reportedly forcing Marvel to make some tough choices for its Spider-Man films.

It’s no secret that Sony has had some trouble with its Marvel films. The studio attempted to make its own universe to compete with the MCU solely focused on Spider-Man villains. While some films like Venom have had moderate success, for the most part, the massive flops that were Madame Web and Morbius have been more trouble for the studio than they’re worth.

However, it seems that Sony is also causing problems for the MCU. According to insider DanielRPK, every time the studio uses a Spider-Man villain like the eponymous Kraven the Hunter in a film, Marvel is blocked from using them in their own universe. While no specific plans were named, this could cause some big issues for the studio as the character’s rogues gallery dwindles.

Marvel May Have Already Changed Their Spider-Man Plans For Sony

While Sony’s use of Spider-Man villains may lock them off from the MCU, it seems that it’s not the only way the studio is using its control of the Marvel IP to change the franchise. Early reports indicated that Spider-Man: No Way Home would have focused on Kraven the Hunter, but Sony blocked those plans due to its concept of building a solo film around the character.

That being said, it seems Sony plans on bowing out of its villain spin-offs after Kraven the Hunter following the failure of Madame Web. This leaves Marvel with plenty of villains to fill out Spider-Man’s roster in the MCU, especially given how wide the character’s rogues gallery truly is in the comics.

Kraven the Hunter is currently scheduled to hit theaters on December 13, 2024. Stay tuned for all the latest news regarding the Aaron Taylor-Johnson movie and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more content!
