Suicide Squad might be the most maligned DC film in history due to its poor reception by fans and critics. However, David Ayer, the film’s director, has released new concept art for Jared Leto’s Joker and Cara Delevingne’s Enchantress that will warp fans’ reality of the film.
David Ayer’s Suicide Squad is a hallmark example of how studio interference can break a film at its very core. One of the biggest problems with the film came from casting, with many hating Jared Leto’s take on the Joker and viewing Cara Delevingne’s portrayal of Enchantress as lacking. Ayer recently released new concept art for the characters on Twitter, literally and figuratively breaking the reality of the movie people thought they knew:
Seeing a mind-bending version of Suicide Squad akin to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness with Cara Delevingne’s Enchantress at the center would have certainly been a treat for the eyes, especially if Joker was at the center of things (even if it would mean he’s played by Jared Leto). Luckily for fans, David Ayer has confirmed James Gunn is interested in releasing his Ayer Cut, so it’s possible one day fans will see the director’s original vision for one crazy movie.
A new era for the DC Universe
James Gunn and Peter Safran now in charge of DC’s film, television and animations efforts at Warner Bros. Discovery, bringing the company’s comic book-related assets under one roof. Gunn is said to be focusing on the creative direction of the DCU while Safran is handling things that are related to business and production.
Blue Beetle and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom are currently in various stages of post-production at Warner Bros. Discovery, with both DC Universe movies slated to hit theaters in 2023. Will the characters from those movies make appearances in the new DCU? Only Gunn and Safran know.
