Taika Waititi Forgot Natalie Portman Was Already In ‘Star Wars’

Waititi is currently working on a Star Wars movie of his own.

Natalie Portman Star Wars

Thor: Love and Thunder Taika Waititi recently admitted that he forgot Natalie Portman was in the Star Wars prequels.

Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder brings back Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, who hasn’t been in the MCU since 2013. Despite the rumors, Kevin Feige clarified that there was no drama between Portman and Marvel Studios. On the flip side, Waititi is also notably working on a Star Wars film, a franchise Portman was also a part of in the past.

Padmé Returns?

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Taika Waititi discussed what the initial conversations with Natalie Portman for Thor: Love and Thunder were like and admitted that he asked Portman if she ever wanted to be part of the Star Wars franchise despite already being in the prequels decades ago:

“Basically I was like, a lot of fans miss Jane Foster, and people want to see her again. It just seemed like the perfect opportunity, because the character was so great in the Jason Aaron run of Thor. Kevin [Feige] was already like, “I’d love to try and figure out a way to bring Mighty Thor into this film and bring Natalie back.” It didn’t take much convincing. She had never heard of that run of the comic, so I just dropped off some comics for her…. Anytime you ask, how did we cast so-and-so? We offered them millions of dollars and they said yes! [Laughs]… Natalie said to me, what do you do next? And I said “I’m trying to work on a Star Wars thing. Have you ever wanted to be in a Star Wars movie?” She said, “I’ve been in Star Wars movies.” I forgot about those ones. [Laughs]”

Here is the synopsis for Thor: Love and Thunder:

The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.

Directed by Taika Waititi and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, the film stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Pom Klementieff, Sean Gunn, and Russell Crowe.
