Taika Waititi explained the mid-credits scene for Thor: Love and Thunder, and teased what it may entail.
Marvel Studios’ newest film Thor: Love and Thunder from Taika Waititi is now playing in theaters, and as per usual with MCU films, there is a mid-credits scene that reveals what’s to come with the future of the franchise. In particular, this new sequence teases not just what’s to come for Chris Hemsworth’s God of Thunder, but also announces an exciting new addition to the franchise.
SPOILER WARNING FOR THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER
In the mid-credits scene for Thor: Love and Thunder, Zeus (Russell Crowe) is shown recovering from being attacked by Thor. Looking to seek revenge against the God of Thunder, he calls on his son, Hercules (Brett Goldstein) to go after him.
Taika Waititi revealed that casting Brett Goldstein was Kevin Feige’s idea:
“Kevin really wanted him to do it, and yeah, Brett’s amazing. He’s great… And I don’t know if that’s to do with Thor, or if it’s to do with how that will develop. Because, obviously, Hercules, there’s a character from the books as well. And so, yeah, this will be interesting to see because Kevin, he’s obviously the mastermind of all of these threads and how they’ll tie up and how they meet, mix and match. So I’m curious to find out myself.
The casting reveal of Brett Goldstein in the mid-credits scene will certainly get fans of the Apple TV+ comedy series Ted Lasso quite excited. The Emmy Award-winning actor looks to be a great fit for the MCU, and the prospect of seeing him face off against Chris Hemsworth’s Thor in the future is something to look forward to.
Here is the synopsis for the film:
The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.
Directed by Taika Waititi and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, the Thor solo film stars Chris Hemsworth, Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Jaimie Alexander, Taika Waititi, Russell Crowe, Natalie Portman, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper.
