‘Thor 4’ Star Tessa Thompson Says There’s Hope For A Valkyrie & Captain Marvel Romance

Valcarol shippers rejoice!

Thor Love and Thunder Captain Marvel Valkyrie

Thor: Love and Thunder star Tessa Thompson has offered her thoughts on a possible Marvel romance between her take on Valkyrie and Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel.

Tessa Thompson first played Valkyrie in 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok, reprising the role in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame and now again in Love and Thunder. While Valkyrie’s sexuality has not been addressed on screen, Thompson, who is bisexual, has said she plays Valkyrie as bisexual too.

Fans are hopeful Valkyrie might find some romance in the MCU soon and one name that has been put forward as a possible superpowered partner for the Asgardian is Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel.

Marvel’s Star-Crossed Lovers?

As a pair of immensely powerful cosmic adventurers, it’s easy to see how Valkyrie and Captain Marvel might have a few things in common.

Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers arrived in the MCU in 2019’s Captain Marvel. The character’s close connection to her former fellow pilot, Maria Rambeau (Lashana Lynch), sparked questions about whether the two might have been more than friends, but Marvel is yet to offer a definitive answer on Carol’s sexuality.

Carol Danvers is set to return to the MCU in The Marvels next year. As long as Valkyrie makes it out of Thor: Love and Thunder alive, the doors could well be open to a relationship between the two heroes.

Talking to Pinkvilla recently, Tessa Thompson revealed she would be open to a romance between Valkyrie and Captain Marvel:

“I, you know, the heart wants what it wants. I don’t… I can’t speak yet to Val. She hasn’t had a ton of time to focus too squarely on her love life since she’s been besought with a lot of kingly duties.

“But there are a lot of amazing men, women, other wordly creatures inside of the MCU and certainly in the canon of characters that could enter the MCU. So, I think there’s so many fish in the sea. She’s single. She’s ready to mingle. And I love, both in the comics, Carol and I… Brie Larson is a good friend of mine and I love spending time with her. So, I wouldn’t be mad at it, for sure.”

While Tessa Thompson remains open to the possibility of a relationship between her Valkyrie and Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, the decision will ultimately lie with Marvel Studios. The two characters are yet to properly cross paths outside of brief battlefield encounters in Avengers: Endgame, so fans will have to wait and see what the future has in store for them.

Here is the synopsis for Tessa Thompson’s latest appearance as Valkyrie, Thor: Love and Thunder:

The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.

Directed by Taika Waititi and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, the film stars Chris Hemsworth, Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Taika Waititi, Russell Crowe, Natalie Portman, Jaimie Alexander, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper.
