Does King Valkyrie share scenes with the Guardians?

Thor: Love and Thunder star Tessa Thompson responds to whether or not she appears in scenes with the Guardians of the Galaxy.

In Taika Waititi’s previous Marvel Studios outing Thor: Ragnarok, Chris Hemsworth’s titular God of Thunder was joined by his fellow Avenger Bruce Banner AKA The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo). In regards to the upcoming sequel, Love and Thunder, he will be joined by the Guardians of the Galaxy, which led to some speculation that their role and screen time in the film would be similar to that of The Hulk’s in Ragnarok. However, a statement from Tessa Thompson may tease that their role isn’t so big.

While speaking with Fandango about Thor: Love and Thunder, Tessa Thompson discussed playing Valkyrie again, and hinted that despite their inclusion in the film, she shares no scenes with the Guardians of the Galaxy:

“Well I didn’t… I just came to set to watch, because I wasn’t in any of the Guardian stuff and I don’t remember which of them said it to me, but someone asked me, ‘Is it always like this?’ I was like, ‘Yes, it is…’ I think what you were saying Taika. I think it’s like… we’re used to a certain level of chaos. Like existing in a certain level of chaos because there’s always like the version that’s on the page and then… we throw that out and do a bunch… that we know probably… 95% of it will never get to be in the film, but you do it for the 5% that can live there.”

Don’t worry. More Guardians stories are on the way.

Although the Guardians of the Galaxy were prominently featured in the teaser trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder, much of the latest promotional material have shifted its focus towards characters that are more specific to the Asgardian variety. Whether it’d be Chris Hemsworth’s protagonist, or other returning characters such as Tessa Thompson’s King Valkyrie, Taika Waititi’s Korg, or Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster, this teases that the lovable cosmic misfits of the MCU may only have a brief appearance in this film.

Even if we won’t see as much from Peter Quill AKA Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Drax (Dave Bautista), Nebula (Karen Gillan), Mantis (Pom Klementieff), Groot (Vin Diesel) and Rocket (Bradley Cooper), they will next be seen in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special later this year, and of course, the long-awaited Vol. 3.

Here is the synopsis for Thor: Love and Thunder:

The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.

Directed by Taika Waititi and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, the film stars Chris Hemsworth, Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Taika Waititi, Russell Crowe, Natalie Portman, Jaimie Alexander, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper.
