The Acolyte finally has a release date! A new poster for the Star Wars Disney Plus series has revealed a dark message for fans.
Lucasfilm announced The Acolyte over three years ago for Disney Plus. Since then, very little has been revealed about the Star Wars series aside from a few pieces of casting information and an updated logo. This has left the project as one of the most mysterious currently in production, especially as it’s set to explore the often ignored High Republic era of the galaxy far, far away.
That’s all seemingly set to change, with a new poster for the series revealing it’s set to release June 4th with a teaser set to drop tomorrow. The poster has also revealed a bone chilling piece of text overlayed on top of a lightsaber covered with a blood smear. The text reads “In an age of light, a darkness rises”.
The Forgotten Story Of The Acolyte
The poster seems to suggest The Acolyte will reveal the dawn of the sith in the Star Wars universe. At the very least, it seems to be covering a great evil that first rose in the High Republic era. The Disney Plus series is confirmed to take place 100 years before the events of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, following a Jedi Master and their former Padawan investigating a dark presence.
An official synopsis for The Acolyte has been revealed on the official Star Wars website that supports the idea of a much more grim take on the universe. The Disney Plus series seems set to pit a Jedi Master against a mysterious figure from his past. The full synopsis can be read below.
“In The Acolyte, an investigation into a shocking crime spree pits a respected Jedi Master (Lee Jung-jae) against a dangerous warrior from his past (Amandla Stenberg). As more clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems….”
The Acolyte seems to be continuing the streak of bringing new and reshing Star Wars stories to Disney Plus. From The Mandalorian to Andor, the future of one of the greatest sci-fi franchises of all time may be on streaming. Though with some exciting movies coming down the pipeline, it may be too early to tell.
